SRP Baby and Mother Space at Ovakent Camp in Turkish Earthquake Zone

Normally, women nurse and care for their babies in their own homes, however given the devastation inflicted by the February earthquakes, new mothers in the IDP camp in Ovakent, did not have an appropriate place to nurse. SRP responded to this problem by implementing a flagship Mother and Baby friendly space. This facility provides a one-of-a-kind dedicated area for nursing mothers, as well as having baby care units. The site provides breastfeeding support, health check-ups, and many other services, under the supervision of two resident medical professionals. The SRP Mother and Baby Space at Ovakent is more than the services it provides. The facility gives comfort and security for nursing mothers, in addition to access to a support system. Moreover, the resident professionals provide mothers in these distressed areas with high-grade medical care to which they would otherwise not have access.
